xiaomi mi 5

Xiaomi fans will be having a great Chinese New Year as the highly anticipated Mi 5 device is reported to launch on the same month. According to Venture Beat, a social media post by Xiaomi’s co-founder and VP, Liwan Jiang, confirmed that the delayed Mi 5 flagship will arrive in February. It’s expected to come after the Chinese New Year which falls on Feb. 8.

He also revealed that the device has already entered mass production and will be equipped under the hood with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. So far, those are the only confirmed pieces of information as not a lot of details have been revealed yet and reports vary according to leaks.

Tech 2 reported that previously released leaked images show the device sporting a 2.5 D glass at the front while the back looks like that of the Mi Note. Capacitive touch keys are nowhere to be found at the bottom but a thin capsule-like fingerprint reader is noted. Apparently, it seems to double as the home button.

Phone Arena also detailed that the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to carry a 5.2-inch Quad-HD resolution screen, but there are also some who claim that it will be 5.5-inches. The processor will be clocked at 2.5GHz and will come along with 4 GB of RAM. As for the internal storage, it is said to come in two variants which include 32 GB and 64 GB, although there are also some reports that say it will have a 128 GB variant as well. The device will feature a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 13-megapixel front camera.

Providing the device life and power is a 3600 mAh battery, according to the Phone Arena report. It’s also said to charge up fast with the built-in Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Aside from that, it’s speculated to run with Android 6.0 Marshmallow along with Xiaomi’s latest skinned version of Android, MIUI 7. As for the price, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is predicted to cost below $400. But of course, until Xiaomi launches the device, it’s best to take these information with a grain of salt.

BlackBerry May Launch 2 Android Phones in 2016

blackberry

BlackBerry CEO John Chen had previously indicated that the company may launch another Android smartphone in 2016 which will be targeted at the mid-range segment. Now, Chen at the ongoing CES 2016 event has revealed that BlackBerry may release not one but two phones – both running Google’s Android OS.

As before, Chen declined to share any details about the launch of new Android-based phones from BlackBerry. At CES, Chen also announced that BlackBerry Priv will now be available via T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon, and will no longer be AT&T exclusive in the US.

Last month, Chen had elaborated when asked about plans for another Android phone, “Depends on the Priv. If the Priv is well received in the market and looks like it is. There’s a good chance we will still focus on the high-end probably closer to mid-range coming out in 2016.”

Following on his previous comments, Chen told CNET, “so far, so good. I’m taking a cautiously optimistic view.” At the same event, BlackBerry’s Ron Louks on being asked (via CrackBerry) about Marshmallow update for the Priv smartphone said that the company will reveal news about update in the first quarter of 2016.

Apart from the phone business, Chen also talked about the Canadian company’s new QNX-based self-driving car software.

BlackBerry’s new platform for self-driving cars is said to make use of features such as collecting and interpreting data from outside and feed it in the car’s driver assistance system. The company is looking to build a core for self-driving cars on top of which various car makers can build features. One of the concepts reported is building a reference system for “building multi-camera car vision systems.”
To recall, BlackBerry apart from mobile business has been into various segments including in-car technology.
At CES 2016, BlackBerry announced that Ford will be porting its SmartDeviceLink (SDL) technology for the QNX CAR Platform for Infotainment. BlackBerry’s subsidiary QNX also showed off some concept cars at the event.

Samsung Galaxy S7 to Launch in March-2016

Samsung-Galaxy-S7

Earlier this month, Samsung hinted that its flagship Galaxy S7 smartphone won’t be introduced during CES 2016. That revelation indicated the smartphone would launch at MWC, as Samsung has done in previous years. Now, China Mobile appears to have confirmed the launch month of the handset.

According to a purported slideshow showing the telecom carrier’s roadmap, the Samsung Galaxy S7 will launch in March 2016, which is in line with the now anticipated MWC launch. The presentation is said to have been shown in a recent event in China. The image showing the particular slideshow was captured and posted by a Weibo user (via GforGames). It has also been revealed that the Galaxy S7 will cost more than CNY 3,000 (roughly Rs. 30,600). Prices of other handsets such as Huawei P9, Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016), Galaxy A7 (2016), and others were also mentioned.

The indicated launch month also goes in line with the recent Wall Street Journal report. As per the report, the Galaxy S7 will be announced during MWC 2016 conference in February.Samsung Galaxy S7 to Launch in March-2016

Leaks and rumours until now have suggested the Galaxy S7 will run Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor in select regions and its Exynos 8 Octa 8890 in others. The firm has reportedly entered an agreement with Qualcomm that gives it exclusive access to the chipset until April 2016. This suggests that the company’s anticipated Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphone will be the first handset to have Qualcomm’s latest offering. The Galaxy S7 is also tipped to house a 5.2-inch display. It is also said to sport 3D Touch-like pressure sensitive display, similar to what we have seen in Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
